My Android app links a website's downloadable content (PDF file) and shows it within the app. Is it any type of copyright violation? The content is freely downloadable from the site. If anyone can give some insight it will be helpful?

In India, you can copyright your android application by registering your app at copyright.gov.in You will have to online file your application with the required details and pay some processing fee and send the printouts of the application with all documentation work to the copyright office. Detailed procedure is mentioned here. http.//copyright.gov.in/UserRegistration/frmLoginPage.aspx Make sure you read this checklist (http.//copyright.gov.in/frmCheckList.aspx) before sending the docs. You need to be patient as the verification process takes minimum 1-2 months before you receive copyright.

Once your application is verified and signed, you will get your certificate of authorization. It will take a few weeks till you receive the copyright. You can also file an electronic copy of the application with the copyright office to have a copy within 1-10 business days. It is strongly recommended registering your android application with copyright.gov.in as they do a search before granting approval. Copyright office is in Delhi, so you will have to move to Hyderabad where the copyright office is located.
